Jeff Smith started playing alto saxophone in 4th grade school band.  Some timeless recordings have survived from that era.  At age 8, he began taking piano lessons, aspiring to the greatness of his two musical heroes of the 1970s: Elton John and Galen Davis.  By 8th grade, Jeff had been relegated to “last chair” in the saxophone section, and he was then forced to quit playing horn in high school for refusing to wear the goofy hats in marching band during football season.  After ten years of classical piano training, Jeff was introduced to the joys of an easily portable instrument: the acoustic guitar.  It was a natural transition, giving Jeff the mobility to explore new musical horizons in his college days.  While living in the glorious Sierra Nevada Mountains in 1991, Jeff started to play electric bass, further elevating his rock star status.

In addition to playing with the amazing cast-members of Zazou, Jeff has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many talented musicians in Seattle including backing up the illustrious and boisterous blues artist Jose Davis in the early 90s.  Jeff has also been an integral member of numerous music projects on the West Coast such as Take One, The Red Hot Sallies, The G&O Jazz Quartet, Boog Daddy Combo, Fresh Red, and Bootlegger.  He even jammed with Cake once……
